President William Ruto Announces Major Government Restructuring in Nairobi, Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya — In address from State House, President William Ruto outlined measures his administration is implementing to address the fallout from the Finance Bill 2024. The President’s speech focused on streamlining government operations and cutting costs.

Key among the measures is the dissolution of 42 state corporations with overlapping functions, with their mandates now set to be absorbed by various ministries. This move aims to eliminate redundancy and improve efficiency in government operations.

Additionally, Ruto announced the suspension of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) appointments, a reduction of advisors in all government offices by 50%, and a ban on non-essential travel for civil servants. These measures are intended to reduce government spending and increase accountability.

The President also reaffirmed the mandatory retirement age at 60 years, emphasizing that all government employees must adhere to this policy without exception.

In a compassionate note, Ruto extended his condolences to families who lost loved ones during recent protests.

He assured them of the government’s full support during this difficult time.

Looking ahead, President Ruto indicated imminent changes in his cabinet and announced the suspension of budgets for the offices of the First Lady, Second Lady, and the Prime Cabinet Secretary’s wife.

These decisive actions underscore the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and streamlined governance.
