Outrage Online After Ruto’s Daughter Is Appointed To A Powerful Gov’t Position

June Rollex Ruto, daughter of President William Ruto, has been appointed Director of Foreign Service and enrolled as a participant at the National Defence College (NDC).

The announcement came through an internal memo from Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing’oei, which was verified by The Eastleigh Voice.

June’s new role marks a significant step in her career, previously highlighted in 2019 when former Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma shared photos of her receiving a delegation in Poland.

The memo also appointed Simon Wanyonyi as Deputy Commandant-Civil at the NDC.

This institution, headed by Lt. General Juma Shee Mwinyikai, is dedicated to training senior military officers and civil servants from Kenya and allied nations in security and public policy management.

The NDC’s curriculum is facilitated by military and foreign affairs experts who lead discussions, presentations, and provide guidance on research projects.

While the specifics of June Ruto’s role at the NDC remain unclear, her rapid rise has sparked some criticism, particularly among career foreign service officers.

This scrutiny echoes past controversies, such as her appointment as Chargée d’Affaires in Poland, which drew accusations of nepotism against her father, then Deputy President.

In 2022, William Ruto faced backlash for appointing family members to prominent government positions, with June’s previous role in Poland cited as an example.

June Ruto’s trajectory in the Foreign Service continues to unfold, with her latest appointment underscoring both her prominence and the ongoing debate over nepotism within the Kenyan government.
