Gov. Barasa Warned: Drama Unfolds in Kakamega as Residents Overpower Hired Goons

KAKAMEGA, KENYA — Chaos erupted in Kakamega Town as residents successfully overpowered goons hired to disrupt peaceful protests against President William Ruto’s government.

The dramatic confrontation, widely shared in videos online, showcased local youths disarming the attackers who were armed with crude weapons.

The incident unfolded as Generation Z youths stormed the town, expressing their dissent despite the recent dismissal of President Ruto’s cabinet.

The videos circulating on social media captured the intense moments when the youths courageously disarmed the hired goons, ensuring the continuation of their peaceful protest.

Following the altercation, the youths issued a statement accusing Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa of funding the goons.

They condemned the governor’s actions, highlighting that such moves are unconstitutional. Under Article 37 of the Kenyan Constitution, citizens have the right to assemble and protest peacefully.

“This blatant attempt to silence our voices through violence is a violation of our constitutional rights,” one protester stated.

“We demand accountability from Governor Barasa and assurance from the government that our right to protest will be protected.”

The incident in Kakamega adds to the growing tension within the country, coming just a day after President William Ruto, while speaking in Kerusoi, Nakuru County, accused foreign powers, including the Ford Foundation, of funding protests to destabilize his administration.

President Ruto’s remarks have sparked further controversy and debate about the influence of external entities on Kenya’s political landscape.

As the situation continues to develop, residents and activists are calling for a thorough investigation into the funding and organization of the goons.

They also urge the government to uphold and protect the constitutional rights of its citizens, ensuring that such violent disruptions are not repeated in future protests.

This dramatic incident in Kakamega serves as a poignant reminder of the volatile nature of political protests in Kenya and the resilience of its citizens in fighting for their democratic rights.
