The former Orange Democratic Movement Party Secretary General Senator Edwin Sifuna is fighting his way to unseat incumbent President Dr William Samoei Arap Ruto in 2027 elections.
The Linda Mwananchi Movement Party leader has been courting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the vote rich Mt Kenya region to vote for him in the forthcoming general elections to be held in August next year.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned potential presidential aspirants against expecting automatic endorsement from the Mount Kenya region without thorough negotiations.
Speaking in Kiambu County during the Ngemi cia Watho Cultural Festival at Thika Greens Stadium, the former second-in-command addressed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna directly, emphasizing that the electorate in the region will rigorously vet any candidate seeking their votes ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua stated that the region regrets its previous political decisions, claiming voters handed over their support unconditionally to President William Ruto, only to later be dismissed and branded as tribalists after securing power.
He insisted that the voting bloc has learned from past political missteps and will no longer offer blind allegiance to any leader or coalition.
The former Deputy President made it clear that structured dialogues, policy evaluations, and public accountability would be mandatory prerequisites before Mount Kenya makes any strategic political commitments.
He urged Mount Kenya constituents to remain patient while their leaders systematically analyze potential national partners to ensure their socio-economic interests are safeguarded.
Sifuna, who attended the cultural event alongside several opposition and legal figures, listened as Gachagua outlined conditions for prospective alliances.
The encounter highlights growing realignments across the political landscape as opposition leaders explore unified strategies to challenge the current administration.
By asserting the need for formal negotiations, Gachagua underscored that Mount Kenya remains a key swing region that will demand tangible commitments from anyone aspiring to lead the country.
