A viral video circulating on social media has captured a shocking incident where a man was seen brutally assaulting a police officer with blows and kicks.
According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the altercation began when the officer attempted to prevent the motorist from making an illegal U-turn, which was causing a traffic obstruction.
The motorist, after hitting a curb and stopping, gave the officer an opportunity to enter his vehicle and attempt to direct him to a police station.
However, the situation escalated when the motorist drove off for a short distance before pulling out a sword from under his seat, forcing the officer out of the vehicle. The motorist then continued to assault the officer, beating him until he fell into a ditch.
Bystanders eventually intervened, rescuing the officer and transporting him to a nearby health facility. Due to the severity of his injuries, the officer was later transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment.
The main suspect involved in the 8:00 am incident is still at large, but police have arrested an accomplice who is assisting with the investigation.
This incident adds to a troubling trend of attacks on police officers. On April 29, a female officer was assaulted by a colleague at Gongoni Police Station in Kilifi County.
The attack occurred after she requested a file from her colleague, who refused and responded with physical violence, leaving her with facial injuries, particularly to her lower jaw.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of the main suspect to come forward to help bring him to justice. Meanwhile, the police are continuing their investigation to ensure the safety and security of their officers and the public.
