CS Nakhumicha Faces Online Backlash Over Claims of Waived Hospital Bills for Injured Protesters

Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Health, Susan Nakhumicha, has come under heavy criticism online following her claims that the government has waived hospital bills for all protesters injured by police during Anti government demonstrations.

This assertion has been strongly contested by Kenyans, led by prominent activist Hanifer, who has been at the forefront of a noble initiative to assist those affected by the unrest in paying their medical bills.

Hanifer, known for her advocacy and support for victims, has publicly shared receipts from Kenyatta National Hospital, which indicate that injured protesters were indeed required to pay for their treatment.

This revelation has sparked outrage among Kenyans, who have taken to social media to express their displeasure and demand accountability from the CS.

Hanifer’s Response

One of Hanifer’s posts, accompanied by images of hospital receipts, has garnered significant attention and support.

“It is disheartening to see our government officials making false claims while the reality on the ground is starkly different.”

“These victims are already suffering; the least we can do is to provide them with accurate information and tangible support,” Hanifer stated.

In a post that has since gone viral, the CS had claimed,

“Out of the total 294 casualties attended to in our referral hospitals, 235 have been treated for various degrees of injuries and discharged, and none has been asked for payment. 58 are still admitted, with one in ICU and three waiting for theatre. We wish them a quick recovery.”

However, the receipts shared by Hanifer and other affected individuals paint a different picture.

Many Kenyans have camped on the CS’s social media posts, urging her to address the discrepancies and be mindful of the affected individuals’ plight rather than spreading misleading information.

The backlash highlights the growing frustration among Kenyans over the handling of the protest aftermath and the perceived lack of transparency from government officials.

As the debatedebate continues to unfold, the demand for truth and justice for the injured protesters remains at the forefront of public discourses.
