Multiple gunshots were fired near Donald Trump’s National Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday afternoon while the former president was on the premises. The incident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m., prompted immediate attention from the Secret Service and local authorities.
Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign communications director, quickly confirmed the safety of the former president, stating, “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time.”
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has also confirmed they are actively investigating the incident and have a person of interest in custody.
This alarming event comes just two months after an attempted assassination in July, when Trump was shot in the ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The July incident heightened security concerns around the former president, especially as he continues to campaign for the 2024 election.
Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the United States Secret Service, said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), “The Secret Service, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a protective incident involving former President Donald Trump.”
Guglielmi reassured the public that Trump remains unharmed, adding that more information will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
Trump’s golf club is located just five miles from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, where he frequently spends time when not on the campaign trail.
As authorities work to gather more details, the event underscores ongoing concerns about the security of high-profile political figures in a tense political climate.
