Siaya Governor James Orengo has issued a stern rebuke against political intolerance following chaotic scenes in Migori County yesterday.
Expressing strong condemnation over the violence targeted at Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and his accompanying delegation, the governor declared that genuine democratic principles cannot coexist with acts of physical intimidation.
The incident occurred during an opposition mobilization tour in South Nyanza, where a group pelted vehicles in the convoy with stones and disrupted planned engagements in Migori Town.
Several vehicles were damaged during the commotion, prompting widespread security concerns among political leaders across the country.
Describing the acts of aggression against Kalonzo’s team in the picturesque county of Migori as deeply disturbing, Orengo emphasized that such hostile disruptions send troubling signals to the nation.
He pointed out that as Kenya approaches the high-stakes 2027 General Election, political space must remain open, peaceful, and respectful for all players, regardless of their political affiliations or regional interests.
The governor urged political figures across the spectrum to ensure campaigns focus on policy and constructive dialogue rather than chaos and organized hostility.
He stressed that protecting constitutional freedoms of assembly and speech is vital to maintaining stability in the country.
His reaction joins a growing chorus of leaders calling for restraint, accountability, and thorough investigations into political violence.
As political factions ramp up early campaigns ahead of 2027, the hostility in Migori has sparked renewed demands for law enforcement agencies to guarantee safety during public gatherings and prevent political competition from degenerating into conflict.
