Cleophas Malalah Sidesteps Gachagua’s “Small Ruto” Remarks, Pushes Kalonzo to Back Sifuna
WESTERN KENYA — Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malalah made his first public appearance following recent televised remarks by party leader Rigathi Gachagua.
Addressing a crowd in Western region, Malalah deliberately avoided a direct confrontation with Gachagua, choosing instead to focus his address on national opposition coalition dynamics ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The appearance comes days after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua publicly addressed Malalah’s recent political pronouncements during a local TV station interview.
Gachagua referred to his deputy as a “small Ruto,” clarifying that Malalah does not speak on behalf of the party and urging him to make it clear when expressing personal opinions rather than official DCP positions.
Rather than taking the bait or engaging in internal party spats, Malalah pivoted to regional strategy, targeting Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Malalah urged Musyoka to drop his presidential ambitions and instead support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the joint opposition candidate in 2027, offering that Kalonzo could serve as Sifuna’s running mate.
“For us to build a winning coalition against the current administration, leaders must make sacrifices,” Malalah stated during the Western event.
He expressed confidence that a Sifuna-Kalonzo ticket represents the most formidable combination to unite opposition strongholds across the country.
Malalah’s proposal follows a series of lobbying efforts aimed at building consensus around Sifuna’s political ambitions.
While Gachagua previously noted that Malalah is free to lobby and express his political preferences local-style, Wiper Party officials have already dismissed Malalah’s proposal.
The exchange highlights growing discussions within opposition movements as figures maneuver for power, lineup alignments, and party endorsements ahead of 2027.
