# Wetangula Speaks After Youths Burn His Ford Kenya T-Shirts in Bungoma

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has spoken out on Kenya’s political future
after a tense incident in Bungoma County, where youths reportedly burned Ford Kenya
T-shirts and chanted slogans associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Videos circulating online showed youths expressing support for Sifuna during an 
event attended by several leaders allied to President William Ruto. The incident
reportedly heightened tensions, prompting some attendees to leave the venue over
security concerns.

The developments have raised questions about Wetangula’s political influence in 
Bungoma, where he has maintained a strong presence for years.

Speaking after the incident, Wetangula defended his decision to support President
William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. He argued that the presidency requires
an experienced leader and dismissed the current opposition’s chances of defeating
the incumbent.

“The Presidency is a serious responsibility that we cannot gamble with as a country
and thus should be entrusted to a leader with proven experience,” Wetangula stated
in a Facebook post.

He praised Ruto’s leadership, insisting that he did not see any current opposition
leader capable of removing the president from power.

Wetangula also outlined his own presidential ambitions, revealing that he hopes 
to lead Kenya in 2032.

According to the National Assembly Speaker, the Luhya community has a realistic 
opportunity to produce a president during that election cycle.

“For the Luhya nation, 2032 presents a realistic opportunity to produce a President
and I do not shy away from saying that I have all the qualities and requisite experience
to lead this country in 2032,” he said.

Wetangula explained that supporting Ruto in 2027 was part of a broader political
strategy to position the community for future leadership.

He said he was ready to complete the journey started by former Luhya leaders Masinde
Muliro and Michael Kijana Wamalwa.

His remarks were delivered during a boda boda empowerment drive at Matulo Girls 
Secondary School in Webuye West, Bungoma County.

The event was organised by Senator Wafula Wakoli and attended by Ruto’s aide Farouk
Kibet, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi, Likuyani MP Innocent
Mugabe and other leaders.

The reported burning of Ford Kenya T-shirts and chants supporting Sifuna now provide
a fresh political talking point as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027
elections.
