Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka has addressed the public fallout triggered 
by his decision to take up an official leadership role within Senator Edwin Sifuna’s
_Linda Mwananchi_ movement, shifting course after months of vigorously spearheading
campaigns for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i.

The vocal lawmaker was recently named as part of the national leadership structure
of the emerging political formation. The alignment raised eyebrows across the political
divide, especially given Onyonka’s prior public commitment to anchoring Matiang’i’s
national campaign.

Breaking his silence in a blunt statement posted on his social media handles, the
veteran legislator dismissed critics targeting him over the political maneuver, 
urging leaders to look at the broader strategic objective rather than regional dominance.

> _“For those of us who are short sighted to be throwing insults to me because of
> my political decisions, I will remind you that we’re on a NATIONAL discourse of
> removing William Ruto from office and not on an agenda of trying to be tribal 
> kingpins,”_ Onyonka wrote.

Onyonka emphasized that opposition victory requires building broad-based national
partnerships and mobilizing substantial voter numbers.

> _“I have said it and I will keep on saying that we need partnership from other
> communities and leaders for us to be able to muzzle numbers to send the enemy 
> home. We are looking at 8 million votes at the lower side, where are we getting
> the votes when we want to continuously discriminate communities and leaders who
> have the numbers? We must be SELFISHLY deliberate on what we want or we perish!
> More than 25yrs in active politics gives me all the reasons to make the RIGHT 
> decisions today and not to live in a denial comfort!”_
