Kenya has confirmed a second Ebola case following the death of the first patient,
raising concerns about the spread of the deadly virus. The Ministry of Health announced
the development in a press release dated October 14, 2026.

## Second Ebola Case Confirmed in Kenya

According to the Ministry of Health, the second Ebola case in Kenya involves a 39-
year-old man who is a close family member of the first patient.

Health authorities had already placed him under quarantine and monitored his condition
daily.

The man developed fever, fatigue and joint pains on October 13, 2026. Medical teams
immediately isolated him, collected samples and sent them for laboratory testing.

The National Virology Reference Laboratory and the KEMRI-CDC laboratory both confirmed
the Ebola infection, with matching results.

Authorities have since transferred him to a designated treatment centre for supportive
care.

## Ebola Contact Tracing and Quarantine Intensified

The Ministry of Health says early detection has helped authorities respond quickly
to the new infection.

The patient was already in quarantine when he developed symptoms, allowing medical
teams to isolate him promptly.

Kenya has recorded two confirmed Ebola cases and one death, according to the ministry’s
statement.

Officials say both infections are linked, with no evidence of wider community transmission
so far.

Health authorities have identified 128 contacts linked to the first Ebola case.

By October 13, officials had traced 113 people, including 108 contacts undergoing
quarantine in Kenya.

Health teams are monitoring these contacts daily and checking their temperatures
for 21 days after their last possible exposure.

Authorities have also notified relevant health officials about five contacts outside
Kenya.

The ministry continues tracing the remaining 15 contacts while identifying people
who may have interacted with the second patient. These include quarantine personnel
and healthcare workers.

## Ministry Outlines Ebola Prevention Measures

The Ministry of Health has strengthened infection prevention measures at quarantine
facilities and treatment centres. Healthcare workers have received protective equipment
and instructions to follow strict safety procedures.

Authorities will immediately isolate and test anyone who develops symptoms after
possible exposure to Ebola. The government has also coordinated its response under
national public health regulations.

Despite the confirmed infections, **Kenya has maintained normal travel, trade and
public gatherings**, according to the ministry. Officials have not introduced restrictions
on this activities.

## Kenyans Urged to Remain Vigilant

The Ministry of Health has urged Kenyans to remain calm while observing Ebola prevention
guidelines. Officials explain that Ebola spreads through direct contact with the
blood or body fluids of infected or deceased people.

Anyone experiencing fever, unusual tiredness, muscle pain, joint pain, vomiting,
diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding should seek medical attention promptly.

The ministry has also asked the public to respect the affected family’s privacy
and rely on official updates. Kenyans can call the toll-free hotline **719** for
information about the Ebola outbreak.

The government says early detection, contact tracing and quarantine remain central
to containing the virus and preventing further infections.
