Nairobi political dynamics have taken a dramatic turn following shifting alliances
ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial race. Governor Johnson Sakaja is making every move
to ensure he gets re-elected.

Nairobi County Woman Representative Esther Passaris has signaled that the capital’s
top political contest remains wide open despite high-profile party realignments.

The political calculus shifted significantly after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja
abandoned the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to align with the Orange Democratic
Movement (ODM).

While the move was widely viewed as a strategic maneuver to consolidate support
within key opposition strongholds, Passaris stressed that joining a specific party
does not automatically secure an electoral victory or lock down party endorsement
for the top county job.
Passaris emphasized that political power ultimately resides
with the electorate.

In her assessment, party switches and political maneuvers cannot substitute for
delivery and accountability, as voters evaluate candidates based on tangible leadership
outcomes rather than political affiliations.

The evolving race has drawn interest across party divides, highlighting a growing
demand for effective urban administration and decisive governance. With multiple
prominent figures eyeing City Hall, the gubernatorial contest is expected to be
fiercely contested.

Passaris reiterated that no politician holds exclusive ownership over the capital’s
voting bloc, ensuring that every contender must actively earn support from the city’s
diverse electorate.

As political realignments continue to alter county dynamics, the race for Nairobi’s
highest executive office is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable contests
in the upcoming election cycle.
