COTU long serving Secretary general Francis Atwoli has arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport amid protests. Flanked by other union officials, he has asked those protesting to hold on for few minutes as they were heading to a meeting.
The meeting is aimed at resolving the impending Issues that have led to the protests. The JKIA workers are asking Adani group to leave the airport in fear they will be sent packing.
” we were never consulted on the whole issue. The government said they held a meeting with stakeholders, which ones? If workers were not involved who are this they met in those offices? We are demanding the leasing to be halted now” said one of the protesters.
Addressing workers, Atwoli insisted that the government officials have failed to pick his calls to resolve the issues. He claimed ministers are not calling him back to discuss the whole scenario. Read Full Article Here.
” I’m here to listen to you. Your grievances have been heard and we are heading to a meeting right now. Our demands are going to be tabled and listened to. Those that have been arrested here we demand their immediate release.” Said Atwoli.
“For anything to Happen in this country, the real stakeholders must be consulted. Workers must be involved for bay smooth transition. They can not claim to have spoken to us when they haven’t. ” Added Atwoli.
Adani Takeover.
From what is happening at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. It seems like the Adani group is determined to takeover the running of airport at all cost. Despite the cry’s of Kenyans, they have been seen inspecting the airport and allegedly taking over the management positions.
