Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata is known to be a person of his own principals. He is well remembered when he wrote a letter to former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata has firmly ruled out taking up the running mate slot under the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), asserting that political discourse ought to focus on transformative policy agendas rather than the pursuit of high-ranking elective seats.

Addressing ongoing speculation regarding his potential nomination as Deputy President alongside party principal Rigathi Gachagua, Kang’ata clarified his reluctance to occupy the second-in-command office.

In his view, securing positions should remain secondary to constructing a clear national platform that outlines genuine solutions for Kenya’s future.

Rather than seeking executive titles, he expressed a preference for contributing strategic ideas to help move the country forward.

The governor emphasized his desire to pitch his policy proposals directly to key leadership figures across the expanding opposition coalition.

He noted an intention to share his developmental roadmap with Gachagua alongside other prominent leaders within the broader alignment, including Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

By positioning himself as a ideological contributor rather than a contestant for national executive office, Kang’ata seeks to shape the political bloc’s underlying agenda.

Reaffirming his immediate priorities, Kang’ata stated that his primary commitment remains executing his gubernatorial mandate in Murang’a County.

He signaled that delivering tangible development results to his local constituents takes precedence over national line-up bargaining ahead of upcoming elections.

His public stance introduces a policy-first narrative within the opposition’s emerging power structure.

By stepping back from running mate ambitions while maintaining active engagement with figures like Gachagua, Kalonzo, and Sifuna, Kang’ata highlights a distinct strategic role focused on policy development and regional governance.
