Shift in Political Strategy
The formal gazettement caps off a series of political maneuvers by Senator Sifuna as he aligns his platform ahead of the 2027 General Election.
- Departure from ODM: Sifuna, who previously served as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), transitioned away from the party to build an independent political vehicle.
- Earlier Obstacles: Before adopting TEP, Sifuna faced legal and administrative hurdles, including disputes before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal involving rival attempts to reserve political party names such as the United Democratic Party (UDP) and earlier iterations of the Linda identity.
- Unveiling TEP: In early October 2026, Sifuna formally launched The Equitable Party (TEP), declaring himself party leader and candidate for the presidency.
- Rebranding to LMM: To consolidate the broader Linda Mwananchi movement—which includes prominent opposition figures like Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale—TEP initiated the formal statutory process to rebrand into the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM).
With the gazette notice now published, Sifuna’s movement takes a crucial step toward securing a fully recognized statutory identity for the upcoming elections.
