Catherine Omanyo Signals Readiness to Welcome Back Sifuna, Rebel Leaders to ODM
Nairobi – Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Acting Secretary General Catherine Omanyo has stated that the party is ready to welcome back former Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo without conditions, should they decide to return to the political fold.
Speaking at a public event, Omanyo emphasized that the party remains a big family that was built under the guidance of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga. She noted that political differences should not permanently sever ties among leaders who shared a foundation under Odinga’s mentorship.
“If Edwin Sifuna and those who left ODM want to come back, I am ready to welcome them with open arms,” Omanyo declared. She reaffirmed that the party leadership has opened official channels for dialog and reconciliation with former members.

Sifuna’s exit from ODM was marked by high internal drama following his unceremonious removal by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC). Omanyo, who previously served as Sifuna’s deputy, was subsequently appointed to take over the office in an acting capacity.
Following his ousted position, Senator Sifuna charted a new political path by joining and leading the Linda Mwanainchi Movement, taking a critical stance against the current ODM leadership structure. Orengo and other prominent opposition figures have similarly maintained political distance from the core party executive.
Despite the bitter fallout, Omanyo stressed that no stringent conditions or hurdles would be placed in front of returning members. She reiterated that the doors remain open to anyone willing to rejoin the movement and continue advancing the vision established by the party’s founders.
