Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have underscored their intent to build a broad-based opposition coalition aimed at removing President William Ruto from power in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at Thika during the Ngemi cia Watho Cultural Festival in Kiambu County, Sifuna acknowledged past political friction between himself and the former second-in-command, noting that their shared evaluation of the current administration has superseded previous rivalries.
Sifuna told the crowd that while he and Gachagua had clashed intensely during previous political contests, both leaders eventually reached a consensus regarding the direction of the country under President Ruto’s leadership.
He asserted that the current executive poses a significant threat to national economic stability and democratic institutions, creating a pressing need for rival political factions to bury the hatchet and present a unified political front ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
The Nairobi Senator emphasized that opposition figures across regional divides must set aside personal ambitions and focus on building strategic partnerships capable of mounting a formidable challenge.
His sentiments were echoed by Gachagua, who affirmed his willingness to work alongside anti-government leaders across the country to bring about leadership change.
Both politicians noted that political realignments were entering a critical phase where cross-regional unity would take priority over past disputes.
The joint appearance at the cultural festival in Mount Kenya highlights a growing convergence among opposition heavyweights seeking to consolidate support across Western, Nairobi, and Central Kenya voting blocs.
As political realignments gather momentum, the Sifuna-Gachagua dialogue marks a clear step toward a consolidated anti-incumbency movement aimed at altering the country’s political landscape.
